- Optimize delivery to people likely to take action: Ensure your ads are being seen by people most likely to take the action you want them to take, like purchase or fill out a form.
- Automatically build audiences for website visitors to retarget: Create Custom Audiences for people who take specific actions on your website, like visited a product page, added to cart or purchased a product.
- Create Lookalike Audiences. Find more people who similar to your best customers.
- Run dynamic product ads. Create relevant and timely ads on FB based on the products people have visited on your website.

When more and more conversions happen on your website, FB gets better at delivering your adverts to people who are likely to take certain actions. This is called conversion optimisation.
The FB pixel is a powerful tool that helps you do the following:
- Deliver adverts to people who are likely to take actions on your website that you care about.
- Learn which adverts lead to the most actions.
- Create Custom Audiences from your website
When someone visits your website and takes an action (e.g. buys something), the FB pixel is triggered and reports this action. It will then try to match this action to someone on FB . This way, you'll know when a customer took an action after seeing your FB advert. You'll also be able to reach this customer again by using a Custom Audience.
- Get the full picture - Place the entire pixel base code on every page of your website. This way, you won't miss any conversion events.
- Don't forget about mobile - If you have a separate mobile website, place the pixel on there too. We can track conversion data across devices and let you know when people view your adverts on one device but convert on another. If you have an app, consider using App Events for the same reason.
- Track the events that matter - On certain pages, add a standard event or custom conversion. Standard events give you more features, but custom conversions are much easier to set up.If you'd prefer not to edit your website's code, we recommend using custom conversions. If you'd prefer to measure and optimise on more data points and don't mind editing your website's code, we recommend using standard events and parameters.Don't forget to track your adverts so that you know what effect they had on your business goals.
- Choose the right optimisation - Optimise your adverts for your actual business goal. However, if you have a low-traffic website, try optimising an earlier, higher-volume action first. For example, if your goal is online sales, you may try optimising "Add to basket" or "Product view" before switching back to "Purchase". This is especially helpful if your adverts aren't delivering as expected.
- Increase your potential audience - Find more people that look like your best customers with lookalike audiences. Broadening your audience in this way will help with advert delivery.
- Calculate your return on investment - Pass a conversion value back so that you can work out exactly how much your return on investment was. For example, instead of only seeing that your FB adverts drove 30 sales, you'll be able to see that they drove 30 sales worth £300. This will help you compare your results from FB with those from other advertising channels. Don't forget to also check cross-device conversions to better understand your customers' purchase behaviour on mobile compared to desktop.
- Choose automatic and always on - If you have a product catalogue, consider using your FB pixel with Dynamic adverts.
